Recycling in Mansion Teodolinda
We always got comments that we should recycle, and it is easy to appreciate the environment benefits on that. Nevertheless, it is not that easy as it seems.
Recycling means to build a relationship with a business that takes the residues and takes avantage of them. We started by the easiest, paper. We donate paper to Los Pipitos, an charity that helps with kids Down Syndrome. Los Pipitos is very efficient on this activity.
Then it was the turn of the plastics bottles and aluminium cans. We are not an industrial plant that generates big quantities of this residues. Finding somebody that pay atention was a bit harder. But we did not stop there. We got somebody that reuses glass bottles.
Cooking Oil has been the toughest of all. We started three time to collect used cooking oil, just to run out of space and have to discard it. Finally we have a contact and we have started to collect it again. We aim to trade used cooking oil for biodiesel.
In the last 6 months we have recycled the following quantities:
1832 pounds of paper, 276 pounds of plastic,
18 pounds of aluminium and 69 pound of glass

New Building
mansion Teodolinda Hotel is pleased to announce that the construction of a new building has started. This new four level building while host a Dentistry clinic, Beauty Saloon, SPA, Bar and a Hand craft store. Besides it will bring 30 new rooms and 10 suites. To keep our commitment with the environment this building will also have solar colectors for heating water. Constructions will end in 2010.

Tropical sun in the shower of its room?
The hot water that is enjoyed in the showers of the rooms, comes from solar energy.
Teodolinda mansion signed with the Center of cleaner Production of Nicaragua a commitment of participation in the Nicatec project. The idea of the project initiates with the qualification of Nicaraguan companies in the design and installation of systems of water heating with solar energy. Subsequent to the qualification two projects (rooms of students of the UNI and Hospital of Leon) donated by the agency of Austrian cooperation were made. The following phase was the co-financing of two projects more, where between the austrica cooparación and the company beneficiary the cost of solar installation of panles would be paid to warm up water.
Tecnosol installed in Teodolinda Mansion 2 independent systems to adjust to the characteristics of the infrastructure. Everyone account with 16 square meters of area of solar collectors and a tank de1000 liters. All the process of installation was executed by the company Nicaraguan Tecnosol and supervised by the center of Production more
clean and technical participant Austrians of the Nicatec project. One of the characteristics is that great part of the existing system based on heating tanks with electrical resistance remains in its site like endorsement. This meant a saving in the costs of the project when taking into account the existing resources.
To the date the system has satisfactorily been working with no need to recurir to the endorsement system. Between recent rains
we have enjoyed sufficient sun so that the system functions with no need to activate the electrical resistance.
After installation Teodolinda Mansion it continues supporting to the center of cleaner production offering data of hot water consumption, usable solar energy and electrical saving of enrgía that will serve as it bases for new projects of this type.

Mansión Teodolinda Hotel has adopted the Project of "Cleaner Production" in order to improve the competitiveness. The Result of this project is a technique diagnostic of a clean Production but with the directives to mainly reach benefits with the optimization of resources like the water and the use of energy.
Some of the main improvements are:
1. Reduction of the maximum demand of energy power, by means of a system of automated control.
2. Reduction of the electric consumption by means of the advantage of sun energy to guarantee the water heating.
3. Advantage of the heat rejected by the dryers for guarantee the water heating.
4. Reduction of the thermal load of the rooms.
With the implementation of these project, Mansión Teodolinda Hotel have the capacity of diminish the operative costs and improving the environmental performance of the activities, improving the quality of the services, with a competitive advantage that guaranteed the comfort of his guests with one renewed vision of environmental protection.
